Saintes, is a nice town inland, crossed by the Charente River, and remarkable for its archaeological sites from Roman times
Saintes is a pretty town located on the banks of the Charente, ideal for resting, enjoying the surrounding countryside, and discovering the rich history of Saintonge.
From Saintes, it is easy to get to the Ile d’Oléron, Rochefort or Royan. The city center is just a few minutes from the A10 motorway, which allows you to reach La Rochelle in less than an hour.
You can discover the monuments of the city: the Ladies’ Abbey, the amphitheater, the Arch of Germanicus. You will also enjoy its pedestrianized city center, where shops, bars and restaurants mingle.
From Saintes, it is very easy to visit the town of Cognac, and its vineyards which are very close. The beaches of the wild coast, the beauty coast are not very far either.
